Wine of The Week

December 1, 2009

If this wine were a person, it would be big. Big like huge. I’m talking Biggest Loser Huge! Allow me to introduce Rombauer Zinfandel.

Now, before you get your panties or briefs in a bunch, let me clarify this Zinfandel is of the red variety. Please do not confuse this with White Zinfandel (a.k.a. that pink looking crap that your crazy aunt drinks). This is not that. No, far from it. This wine is a personal favorite. I vividly remember the first sip I had. It had to be at the Hollywood Vine in Hollywood, Florida. (One of my all time favorite wine and cheese shops. If you are ever in the neighborhood, stop by, ask for Luciano or Steve and tell them Candice sent you. I guarantee you a great time.) Back to the Rombauer, it is full-bodied, lush and fruit forward. It has a lovely black cherry aroma and tastes of dark berries that linger on the palate. It also has a great full texture to it.

Rombauer hails from Napa Valley, California. It retails around $30, making it one of the most expensive wines I drink regularly but, it is worth every penny. If you like a hearty red wine, this one is definitely a winner!

Sunday Funday in Upstate NY!

November 30, 2009

I love to get away. Who doesn’t? New York City is a treasure trove of fun on a daily basis. So much to do and explore. There also exists a whole world right outside the city waiting to be explored. I needed a great spa experience. It’s one thing to go to a spa in the city, relax and feel zen but, the moment you step out those doors you are back in the hustle and bustle. I needed more. Enter Buttermilk Spa.

I hopped in the ride and headed north on I-87 to the teeny town of Milton, NY. I arrived at the spa and immediately felt 10 lbs lighter. The spa is known for its Eco-friendly philosophy. The building utilizes the power of the sun and earth to heat the sauna, steam room and mineral pool using both solar and geo thermal energy. The view from the pool was amazing. I scheduled a hot stone massage. I arrived early to take advantage of the sauna. After a few minutes, my masseuse came to find me. I enjoyed an awesome 90 minute treatment. The ambiance in the room was totally relaxing with soothing music and subtle natural lighting.

Wine of the Week

November 15, 2009

LuzonHey Girl Hey (or Yo Son Yo)! It’s Candy, here to bring you the Wine of the Week!

I will be choosing seasonal and recession friendly wines that reflect the current temperatures and economic climate.

2007 Finca Luzon Jumilla

This wine is a bargain from Jumilla, Spain. I’m not going to get into the technical mumbo jumbo (ex. I smell a hint of cherries & tabacco on the nose, I COULD but, I will keep it simple).

It is a lush, bold and fruity wine. 65% Mourvedre and 35% Syrah. 14.5% alcohol 🙂 Pair it with a nice steak or hamburger. For my sustainable people, they also make a organic version (look for Verde on the label). And it retails for just $7.99 per bottle!
